YOUR ROLE AS AN EMPLOYER... the employer helps orient the WBL student to the job, the business, and the industry as a whole. The employer participates in the development of a training plan for the Work-Based Learning student and evaluates the skills and tasks listed on that plan. The employer could also assist the student in carrying out classroom assignments related to their job. 

THE EMPLOYER... evaluates the WBL student's progress in learning their job and communicates the strengths and areas where improvement is needed with the Work-Based Learning Coordinator. The employer counsels the student concerning their performance, both on the job and in school, as well as their relationship with other employees.

Are worksite employee supervisors required to participate in specialized training? No. A brief orientation will be provided for employers to explain Work-Based Learning requirements. The Work-Based Learning Coordinator and the employer will develop a training plan to outline the experiences and skills the student should develop with the job scope.

Are there extra expectations when employing a student? The Work-Based Learning Coordinator will visit the job site to observe the students working and communicate with their supervisor. Employers complete a minimum of two employee evaluations per semester to ensure skill development.

What are the benefits of being a work-based site? Work-Based Learning cooperative employers will gain a pool of qualified and enthusiastic applicants, reduced recruitment and training costs, and enhanced company-to-community involvement.
