ACADEMY FOR ADVANCED STUDIES POTENTIAL ASSOCIATES

What determines eligibility for AAS associates? Associates who are a minimum of 15 years of age, on track for graduation, have a defined career plan, enrolled or have completed a CTAE pathway, maintain an excellent attendance and discipline record, and have reliable transportation and proof of insurance are eligible to enroll in the AAS Work-Based Learning program.

Will I get paid and earn school credit? Associates who are placed in paid positions will earn wages paid by the employer. Associates earn school credit based on completing course assignments, documenting work hours, completing training plans, and having regular evaluations. WBL Placements can be either paid or non-paid.

Do I have to be employed to enroll? No. Part of the Work-Based Learning process is identifying a job that aligns with a associate's career plans. If an associate is employed, the Work-Based Learning Coordinator will work with the associate and employer to create a training plan.

Will the program continue after I graduate? Continued placement is determined by the host worksite. However, some positions are specifically for associates enrolled in the Work-Based Learning program.

One of the most important things that an associate can do to prepare for the world of work is to gain on-site experiences transferable to career goals.
