Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA)

Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) is a national Career and Technical Student Organization that helps students become leaders in their families, careers, and communities. As an extension of Family and Consumer Sciences education, FCCLA connects classroom learning with leadership development, service, career preparation, competition, and real-world experiences.

Through FCCLA, members develop skills such as communication, teamwork, planning, goal setting, problem-solving, and leadership while addressing issues that affect individuals, families, careers, and communities. Chapter activities and projects may focus on areas such as nutrition and wellness, family relationships, career education, community service, leadership, and other issues important to young people.

STAR Events

One of the signature opportunities available through FCCLA is STAR Events: Students Taking Action with Recognition. These competitive events allow students to demonstrate their knowledge, skills, leadership, and career preparation at the regional/district, state, and national levels.

With more than 30 events available, members can choose opportunities that align with their individual talents, career interests, and Family and Consumer Sciences coursework. Students may compete individually or as part of a team, depending on the event.

Many STAR Events challenge students to identify an issue affecting families, careers, or communities, conduct research, develop a solution or project, and communicate their work to others. Events are designed to encourage both individual achievement and collaboration while giving students an opportunity to apply classroom learning in meaningful ways.

Scholarships and Recognition

FCCLA membership can also open the door to scholarship and recognition opportunities at the state and national levels.

Georgia FCCLA highlights scholarships connected with colleges, universities, professional organizations, and industry partners. Opportunities listed for members include scholarships associated with institutions and organizations such as:

Additional opportunities include the FCCLA Memorial Scholarship, the Allen-Childs Scholarship, the Japanese Exchange Scholarship, and other awards supporting students pursuing postsecondary education and career goals.

Membership

FCCLA gives students an opportunity to take skills learned in Family and Consumer Sciences courses beyond the classroom. Members can develop leadership and professional skills, serve their school and community, explore careers, participate in conferences, pursue scholarships and recognition, and demonstrate their talents through STAR Events.

Membership can help students:

  • Strengthen leadership, communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills
  • Apply classroom knowledge through hands-on projects and competitive events
  • Explore careers connected to Family and Consumer Sciences
  • Participate in service and community-focused projects
  • Attend leadership conferences and other FCCLA events
  • Compete individually or as part of a team
  • Pursue scholarships and other recognition opportunities
  • Build experiences that support college and career readiness

Students who are currently enrolled in or have previously completed an eligible Family and Consumer Sciences or related course may qualify for FCCLA membership.

FCCLA meets in Room 612 on CTSO/Club days.
