School Resource Officer
My name is Officer Mikal Jones, and I’m honored to introduce myself as the School Resource Officer (SRO) for Excel Academy, Impact Academy, and the Academy for Advanced Studies (AAS). I’m excited to join your school communities and to support the outstanding work you do each day for the students and their families.
By way of background, I have served in law enforcement since 2019. I began my career with the Athens-Clarke County Police Department, where I worked patrol operations and also served as a fill-in SRO when needed. I later moved to the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office after accepting an appointment to the prestigious Blackhawk Auto Crimes Unit. Most recently, I accepted my current position with the Henry County Police Department’s School Resource Officer Unit.
As your SRO, my role is centered on safety, relationship-building, and support. Just as importantly, I want to emphasize that I am not only a resource for students, but also for every teacher, staff member, and administrator within the schools I serve. My goal is to be a visible, approachable presence on campus and a reliable partner to each of you.
I am available to assist in a variety of ways, including answering general legal and law-enforcement-related questions (as appropriate), offering leadership and guidance on safety concerns or incidents, and providing the many other forms of support you have come to expect from an SRO.
